A double taper would suit that rod much better Michael. I tend to agree with Kenny that the line is too heavy and stressing the rod too much. If that's how it performs with a short line, no fly, in near static water and no wind, imagine how it would buckle in a real fishing situation!

Would be some craic getting a double figure fish on it though.

Looks like your home stream could do with a wee fresh!!

Theres a 10ft polyleader, 5-6ft of mono and a piece of wool also.
Dont think the rod is too stressed, just old and bendy
Any less flex and the line would go nowhere on that rod, there isnt much tip power I dont think, it all comes from further down. Maybe I'm wrong though! I'll try a couple of different lines on it to see what it's like if I get the chance.
Where I'll be using that rod there will be less line out than that so it should be grand

I wouldnt call it a serious casting tool anyway nice for a wee change though and a bit of craic!

Aye it needs a bit of rain! Thats a wee tributary of the Moyola. Couldnt find my waders to go out in the Moyola and make a video so I went up there instead

PS, you would be fairly panicking if you seen your Loomis rod bend half as much as that!

You'd be surprised at how much I've seen my 15ft Loomis bend....a 28 pounder in a heavy stream does that! As does a 50 pounder in the Alta when it's 6ft above the seasonal norm.

And my 13ft GLX doesn't look too stiff when tackling a 16lb sea-trout, as it did last year

I'm sure you'll have fun with the rod Michael. I have a couple of friends who have split cane rods they dust down every three or four years and have a cast with.

It's great to see them being used, the actions are wonderful. One friend was using one of a matching pair of 14ft Hardy Wye split cane rods when I was with him many years ago on the East Mayo water, and landed a 15lb springer.

The action is probably not far removed from your Milbro.

I'd say they would be in the same boat alright. Eugene was out tonight with it, he couldnt believe it! He couldnt believe that I got that rod for £10 bargain there! The best of it is that I actually do hope to put it to use when the water is high on the Moyola or smaller rivers like it.

Tried the rod earlier with a 9/10 Vision Ace floating shooting head. It flew out!
Definitely going to make a shooting head or two from a cheap double taper now
