    Default Braid

Guys ive got two spools of braid each spool is 100m long

The reel i have holds 200m of line !!!

Would you trust joining the two lines together to fill the reel and what knot would you use ?

Or will i stop being a stingy bugger and go out and buy a 200m spool of braid

if it was me i would just join them using a stainless steel tippet ring, in normal fishing you wont get anywhere near going past the first 100m, or else that would be some fish you have got on

    Thank you ironbluedun

Sorry i should have said i'll be using the braid as backing and i'll be fly fishing for bone fish and tarpon.

I hear they strip a lot of line off

Eddie if it was me I would have mono and the braid. Make sure not to overload the spool. A knot I learnt was this...dont know the name but hope I can make it clear enough...

Make a loop on the end of the mono, no knot just a loop. Put the braid through the loop and wrap around 9 times up, then turn and wrap 9 times back down. Put the braid back through the loop the same way it went in. If you don't it wont work. Before you tighten the knot wet it in your mouth.

Hope that is clear enough. Its a popular knot in bass fishing when joining braid to fluoro.

bonefish or tarpon, i know nothing about them.........if you are using as flyline backing then you cant use the tippet ring, not sure how you would join braid to the back of flyline, a series of well tied and super glued nail or needle knots maybe???

not great as backing tends to dig in and jam on the reel

Salar the braid i bought is coated in some way which is supposed to stop digging in. Thats why i bought it. Then when i get back from Cuba i'll be able to transfer it on to my spinning reel. Thats my theory hope it works
