Its great to say that our fisheries board have it right with 10 tag limit. However its like a speed limit, its not a target. I have never used more that 5 tags. I used to take fish and give them to a few people but have stopped that. Lets face it non anglers dont appreciate the hours spent trying to catch there amazing creatures. I do agree with thunderflash in relation to killing large red fish. I fished on the Mirimichi and the locals have only 8 tags for the season. They can only take 1 fish a day and the fish has to be under 63cm. That river produces 30lb every year. All large fish go back, large fish produce bigger eggs and more of them continuing the big fish gene. I think that a similar regulation should be introduced here protecting the bigger fish. Should all fish over 63cm be returned?

Keep only what you can comfortably eat withn reason and within the rules.

Fresh fish, not aged and coloured fish that taste nothing like a fresh fish are the ones that will give you more satisfaction.

I cringe when I hear people killing fish, so they can give away around the doors or feed their dogs with them!!

Spot on Kingfisher I send two to the smokery every year and the rest go back!If I am on a river that I think is struggling then I will release everything I catch!

Each year three out of our nine club landowners get a cock fish each.
Some of our members may take one for the pot,
but the most of our members release all fish once the three landowners have been sorted.
Maybe and just maybe this is why the River Fane is the only river on the east coast open to killing fish.
If I am not fishing, I am thinking of it.

The reason as to why that river is still open for killing fish is baffling, anyway that's another debate.

I always welcomed the 10 tag system. But these days i feel that ten is way more than enough for anyone in a season and I for one believe that a three fish limit per day is too much, two is plenty for anyone.

I never kill salmon just to give them to other people who do not appreciate the effort and cost involved in catching them, that is an awful waste. How many salmon can one average family eat in a season, i think about 5 is enough.

The killing of red or stale fish is just as disgusting as Mr Jone's recent behavior on lough Corrib, yet many do it, they just cant help themselves.

I reckon 3 a season is enough for anyone ( never caught more than 3 a season anyway ) As far as I am concerned if anyone wants one they can catch it themself. Only exeption is a steak or two for someone who is elderly/infirm and cannot catch their own.
My experience is that most people kill anything they get, even a 9" Brownie for the cat................

25 is too many Salar we both know that but the vast majority of us don't get anywhere near that in a year. Mainly due to work committments etc. The guys who fill the book are selling for profit, they have to be there is no way you like salmon that much.

As for how many I take.

I haven't used a blue tag since 2007 and won't again either. As for the black tags starting in June. I made the 5 we used to get issued do me all season and more often than not i returned unused tags, this year I'll make the 2 do me.

Even if i get the 25 limit I can say for sure I wont be killing them. I'm off the mark since May this year and haven't used a tag yet.
